About Me

Hello!  My name is Ms. Marietta Newman.

This will be my 15th year teaching, and eleven of those years have been here at Smith Elementary!  My switch partner, Ms. Webb, and I are teaching 4th grade together this year! Lots of new things to learn. I will still be teaching Math and Science, my favorites!

I have lived in The Woodlands for 20 years.  I have a rescued 6 year-old American Staffordshire Terrier who keeps me busy.  Her name is Amica, which means female friend in Latin.  I like reading, walks, and soccer.

My son, Chayse, graduated from Texas A&M in 2014!  WHOOP!!!  I am a very lucky mom because he works at Shell in downtown Houston and is still close to me.

I was born in Pennsylvania, but graduated from Crosby High School here in Texas.  I was in the Air Force from 1985 to 1993 and left service as a SSgt.  I was a Medical Laboratory Technician and continued that work in the civilian world for awhile.  I then went back to school and graduated with a BSIS from the University of Houston-Downtown.  I became certified as a teacher through an ACP program, and I have never looked back.

I am also the Site Manager for the district after school care program called Adventures.  I have been the site manager for SES for all four years the program has been in operation.  I love working with my group leaders to provide a fun, structured, and safe environment for our children after school.  I supervise/interact with children of all ages in this program.  This provides me with lots of laughs, hugs, and strong student/parent relationships.

I love working with students and parents to achieve success for everyone!
