Project REACH is an exciting program that allows gifted and advanced students opportunities to research, pursue, and develop their interests and abilities beyond the classroom environment.
The goal of the program is to prepare students in grade 4 for a wide range of secondary and post-secondary programs by developing intellectual curiosity that develops them into life-long learners and allows them to reach their full potential. Project REACH is an extension program that supplements core classroom instruction. Students will meet with me two hours per week.
The curriculum for the 2018-19 school year will focus on various enrichment experiences such as: Mock Trial, Design Thinking Challenges and Genius Hour. Genius Hour will allow me to teach students an in depth research process that they can apply to their own interests. At the most recent gifted and talented convention, Genius Hour was one of the main topics of discussion. Genius Hour enables students to explore their own passions and fosters their independent and creative thinking. Because students research and learn about topics of their choice, engagement and productivity is higher. However, there is a research process that must be followed. I will be using the 6 P's of Genius Hour, created by Andi McNair, to organize the process.
