National School Breakfast Week - March 2nd through 6th

Monday:  “Green Eggs & Ham” demo at Smith Elementary School during breakfast.  The District Chef will present to students the health facts and benefits of eating spinach, which is the colorant in the eggs. 

He will also explain the many uses for spinach in everyday cooking.  Finally, chef will encourage reading by recommending that students read “Green Eggs & Ham” by Dr. Seuss in celebration of his birthday.

 

Tuesday:  “Spark up your day with a Citrus Parfait” demo at Magnolia Jr. High School during breakfast.  The District Chef will present to students the health facts and benefits of eating citrus and yogurt as part of a balanced breakfast.  Chef will also provide students with a brief history of Citrus growth in Texas and its importance to our economy. 

 

Wednesday: “Unscramble your day with a Cauliflower Scramble Burrito” demo at Alpha Academy during breakfast.  The District Chef will present to students the health facts and benefits of eating cauliflower as part of a balanced breakfast.  Chef will provide students with information on the disease fighting characteristics of cauliflower as well as its cognitive benefits.

 

Thursday: “Smooth out your moves with a Strawberry Smoothie” demo at Bear Branch 6th Grade Campus during breakfast.  The District Chef will present to students the health facts and benefits of eating strawberries as part of a balanced breakfast.  Chef will provide students with information on ways strawberries raise energy levels to help us start out our day on the right foot.

 

Friday:  “Rise to the top with Oatmeal Toppers” demo at Magnolia West High School during breakfast.  The District Chef will present to students the health facts and benefits of eating oatmeal as part of a balanced diet as well as the benefits of its toppers: apple infused sweet potato, homemade granola, and cranberries.   Chef will provide students with easy to make recipes and information on how oatmeal helps the body burn fat.
